Jade Braves the Dark - Book Review

Jade Braves the Dark
by Valdene Mark

What Lurks in the Dark?

Every other mother experiences the struggle of either putting their little ones’ to sleep or helping them overcome fear. Jade is no exception. This little girl is afraid of the dark. But, she is brave enough to conquer her fear. Follow the girl’s story in Jade Braves the Dark.

Which child doesn’t experience fear of the dark? An unlit room during the night can be scary to the highest level for a toddler. Especially when crickets begin to sing their creepy songs. A child’s mind is quick to picture images of ghosts, monsters, and ugly-looking creatures. And, most often, the fear that stems from their wild imagination leaves them sleepless in the night.

But, there’s an author to the rescue!

Thankfully, Valdene Mark does something to ease every frightened Jade and Jude. In her little book, Jade Braves the Dark, Valdene Mark tells a story of the little girl named Jade.

One night, her mother puts her to bed in her own room. But, Jade’s mother does not know she’s afraid of the dark.

As soon as her mother leaves the room, and the light is switched off, Jade begins to tremble in fear. She feels like something or someone lurks around the corner and under her bed. She tries to close her eyes, but she cannot sleep.

Then, something happens. Jade resolves she must face her fear alone. What do you think Jade does? Follow her story and be inspired.

The Book and the Author

Jade Braves the Dark is a story of courage. The author’s writing style is simple and brief, just within the attention span of a little child. Most importantly, she sees to it that her story is beautifully illustrated. So, she drew a rich purple color and put sparkly light in the pages. These images are sure to keep a child’s attention glued to the book.

Because of these, I give Jade Braves the Dark a rating of 5 out of 5 stars, and I recommend it to parents with children 2 to 8 years old. It’s an ideal bedtime book for little children, and a captivating self-read for literate kids.
