Maximus the Platypus - Book Review

Maximus the Platypus Finds His Family
by Andi Cann

Some animals have looked alike. For example, a tapir looks like a pig, and a crocodile looks like an alligator. It’s no wonder baby Maximus the Platypus mistakes other animals in the neighborhood as his family.

We all want to belong to a family because people are social beings. We want someone to care for us and love us. The moment we lose a family or loved one, we become sad. That’s also the way with animals. Almost, it not all, animals want to belong to their own species. They, too, feel the need to be loved and cared for. And that’s exactly what Maximus longs for.

Written by Andi Cann, Maximus the Platypus Finds His Family is a children’s book. Its story revolves around the baby Maximus the Platypus. He was born in a village. But, unlike other babies, Max is big. His body is massive his grandparents have to make a special bed for him on the riverbank.

One night while Max sleeps, a storm comes. Heavy rains pour down. As the water in the river rises, his bed floats on it. Only in the morning does he find out that his bed is already in the middle of the river. And, his grandparents are not with him. They are nowhere to be found in the vicinity. Max yells for help. Will somebody hear his plea? Follow his little adventures in Maximus the Platypus Finds His Family.

The Book and the Author

Maximus the Platypus Finds His Family is a family-oriented children’s book. The reading tone is friendly. It stimulates excitement and a feeling of adventure. The book is an ideal reading material either as a bedtime story or a family-bonding moment of storytelling. Older kids that are already literate enough may also enjoy Max’s story. The bold illustrations of earth colors against a light blue background are cool and attractive to young people.

Moreover, I commend the author for her work on Maximus the Platypus Finds His Family. The book promotes kindness, friendship, and love. I also like her explanation of the platypus.

Overall, I give Maximus the Platypus Finds His Family a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. And, I recommend it to parents with children 2 – 8 years old.
